Siemens Teamcenter X and SAAS PLM Rally

PLM industry has a new marketing darling – SaaS. It was just two weeks ago when I shared news about information about PTC Atlas platforms and the PTC SaaS PLM strategy shared during PTC LiveWorx 2020 and SaaS PLM. If you missed my articles, please check it out here.

Last week, Siemens Industrial Software (former Siemens PLM) cam announced its new program called Teamcenter X. Check this out here – Teamcenter X: Future-Ready Cloud PLM. The formal intro says:

Get started with Teamcenter X today for a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) cloud delivery of PLM that’s easy to use and easy to access. You can pay as you go, and only pay for what you need. Best of all, Siemens manages Teamcenter X for you, so we do the heavy lifting while you drive product innovation. (1) Instant-on cloud PLM for a fast return on investment; (2) PLM that grows with you as your business grows; (3) Mendix low-code platform keeps you up-to-date with the latest technology.

Siemens infographics explains the value of cloud and PLM as well as provide the use case for Teamcenter X as following:

It is not the first time when Siemens sends a message cloud and Teamcenter. In the past, we’ve seen the announcements of Teamcenter availability on cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure. Check out my old articles here or this one from Siemens – Teamcenter on AWS Cloud: In Step with the Latest Cloud Solutions.

It is hard to understand the details and technology of Teamcenter X beyond phrases like “instant PLM” and Mendix platform. One can be Teamcenter hosted on AWS and the second is actually a development platform to support DevOps for Teamcenter X magic. Who knows? Siemens provided very little information. If you have more information, please share links in the comments. Later this week, Siemens is hosting a Realize LIVE virtual event. I look forward to learning more there.

What is my conclusion?

Almost a decade ago, Autodesk was the first large CAD vendor embarked on the cloud PLM journey. It looks like 2020 will become a year when all PLM companies are pushing forward their SaaS PLM announcements and platforms. It was a 3DEXPERIENCE WORLD with 3DEXPERIENCE.Works, PTC Atlas (including Onshape acquisition), and now Siemens Teamcenter X. All large PLM vendors are aligned to compete into SaaS PLM. The next few years will be a very interesting time in PLM. Just my thoughts…
